Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

When are my payments due?
How do I make payments?
Can I defer my loan payments?
What if I can’t make my payments?

When are my loan payments due?
ABF loans have a grace period, meaning that your first monthly payment isn’t due until one year after you finish your schooling. A few months before that anniversary, ACS will mail you a payment coupon book detailing the amount and due dates of your monthly payments. The term of your loan will be either 5 or 10 years, depending on the term selected when your promissory note was signed. Your payment coupon information is also available online.

How do I make payments?
All payments should be made through ACS. They can accommodate a variety of repayment options such as paying online or by phone, setting up automatic deductions from your bank account, etc. To simply mail in a check:

If you have a coupon book, send payments with coupon to:
The Albert Baker Fund
ACS
PO Box 3295
Milwaukee, WI 53201-3295

If you don’t have a coupon book, send payments to:
The Albert Baker Fund
ACS – CP&S
P.O. Box 7061
Utica, NY 13504

Remember to write your account number (your Social Security Number) on your check for accurate processing.

Can I defer my loan payments?
Your loans payments may be deferred under certain circumstances, but you must first file a formal application. Please contact ACS for a deferment application if you are:

  • Resuming your education as a full-time student
  • Serving in the US military or Peace Corps
  • Receiving government unemployment assistance

Additionally, it is ABF policy to forgive your loan payments every month that you are listed as a Christian Science practitioner or nurse in The Christian Science Journal, providing you were current with your payments at the time you became listed.

What if I am not able to make my payments?
If you are having financial difficulties, PLEASE DON’T skip payments without our permission. We encourage you to contact ABF directly at finance@albertbakerfund.org to keep us aware of your circumstances. Here are some facts to consider before you contact us:

  • We are a small, low overhead non-profit organization without the resources to follow up regularly on chronic past due accounts. When our borrowers skip payments, we have to fall back on the resources of a collection agency.
Being sent to a collection agency may affect your credit score and cost you additional collection fees and late charges until the loan is paid in full.
  • Paying faithfully every month will demonstrate to us that you are not the type of borrower who needs the extra attention and special skills of a professional bill collector in order to maintain a commitment.
  • And, finally, we will NEVER send back a payment because it is too small. If you can’t make the whole payment, arrange to send us a partial payment to show us that you’re still trying!
