We supported hundreds of students and career builders through virtual and in-person workshops, developed new scholarship opportunities and changed the way we financially support students in need. Read on for more updates and how you can support a scholarship!
Career Coaching on the Road: ABF Career Alliance director Robin Jones hit the trail to offer career coaching to students and young professionals working at Christian Science summer camp programs from coast to coast. He met with 110 seasonal staff members from Crystal Lake Camps, Camps Leelanau & Kohana, Cedars Camps, and the U.S.-based Camp Bow Isle staff supporting campers unable to travel to Canada. Follow us on Instagram to see highlights from Robin’s adventures!
New Headquarters: We moved offices from Sacramento to Folsom, California. After unpacking, we got to work celebrating more than three-dozen spring graduates supported by ABF in their undergraduate and graduate programs at colleges and universities across the United States.
We welcomed the ABF Board of Trustees to Folsom in August, at the first in-person gathering of the group since early 2020! During that meeting we welcomed new Board members Craig Donaldson, Trudy Palmer, and John Strout. We also celebrated the work of retiring member Sharon Perlis and presented her with an award for her selfless support of students and professionals in their educational and career journeys.
Increased Scholarships and New Scholarships: We increased our scholarships to $4,500 this year to help students pay for college and reduce their education debt. Three new donor-funded scholarships were also announced.
- Jean Burgdorff Memorial Endowed Music Scholarship – Awardee: Natasha Naik, University of Cincinnati
- Helen and John Spangler Memorial Endowed Scholarship – Awardee: Claire McCleland, University of Michigan
- University of California, Davis Endowed Scholarship – Open for applications, contact Jill Stucker, ABF Chief Programs Officer, at firstname.lastname@example.org for more information.
Career Development Tools: We continued to connect our community to an expansive network of professionals and career-advancement insights thanks to our Net Effect online series, hosted by the ABF Career Alliance. We hosted a two-part special career workshop with career coach Don Asher, giving participants concrete action items to help invigorate their job search. We also hosted Net Effect episodes featuring conversations with Trudy Palmer of The Christian Science Monitor and Chris Harbur, CEO & Founder of Let’s Go Play.
We had a wonderful summer, made possible by our donors, staff and volunteers from around the country. You can help impact students now by donating to our current ABF Matching Opportunity. All gifts made by September 30 will be doubled!
